HACLA, Michaels, Bridge Housing to Celebrate Decade-Long Milestones in Revitalizing Jordan Downs
The Revitalization of Jordan Downs in the Watts Neighborhood of Los Angeles is celebrating 10 years of success, as it reaches the half-way point in converting an obsolete public housing complex--one of the largest in the United States, into a vibrant, urban village.
In partnership with development partners Bridge Housing and The Michaels Organization, the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles has created hundreds of new high quality, affordable, mixed income housing along with a shopping center and other retail spaces, job opportunities for residents, child care, parks and gathering spaces, and new infrastructure --including the extension of Century Blvd, all while ensuring no displacement of the existing community.
New phases continue apace, including the grand opening of Bridge Housing’s latest community in June and the groundbreaking of Michaels’ 5th phase expected later this summer. Also coming soon: the start of Century Gateway Park, a brand new community green space slated to feature a meadow, two basketball courts, walking paths, lighting, outdoor seating, and a community pool.
On July 30, 2025, HACLA, Michaels, and Bridge Housing will host a 10-year milestone ceremony at Turtle Bay Park.
The ceremony will bring the development teams together with city, county, state, and federal officials, along with a host of development and community partners and residents, to mark the progress made -- and the progress still to come.
